Canadian Youth Chess Championships Prep Camp (5 Days)
with International Master Mark Plotkin
International Master Mark Plotkin will have an intensive 5-day training camp designed to prepare ambitious young players for the Canadian Youth Chess Championships. This camp will focus on sharpening practical skills, improving decision-making, and building confidence in tournament play.
Each day will combine instructive lessons, guided practice, and competitive play in a focused but engaging environment. The goal is not just to learn new ideas, but to apply them effectively under real tournament conditions.
Camp Overview
Monday: Foundations & Planning
We begin by establishing strong fundamentals: piece activity/development, planning in the middlegame, and identifying imbalances.
Tuesday: Calculation & Tactics
A closer look at positions that emphasize calculation techniques and tactical awareness. Emphasis will be placed on thinking clearly under pressure, avoiding common mistakes, and improving visualization.
Wednesday: Positional Play & Strategy
Focus on positional understanding: pawn structures, strong vs weak squares, and long-term planning.
Thursday: Openings & Practical Preparation
There will be conversations on how to build a solid repertoire, what to avoid, and how one can spot common opening mistakes.
Friday: Tournament & Game Analysis
The final day will feature a training tournament where players can put their skills to the test in a competitive setting.
After the lunch break, we will analyze the games together, highlighting key moments, missed opportunities, and practical lessons to carry into the Canadian Youth Chess Championships.
